Day 14: Grand Tetons & Salt Lake City UT

We froze our little patooties off last night! It got into the 40s and we huddled together for warmth. The cold made us get up early and we packed up before heading into town to fuel up. We really bundled up this time. We saw a donut shop on the way in and wanted to stop there for breakfast. We did, and it was attached to a diner. We decided to get the donuts for later and eat in the diner. It was pretty good.

We headed back to the Grand Tetons. It didn't seem as long of a road on the way back in. The best part about the construction was the signs. "Long Delay, Great Scenery". Just as we got out of the construction was the best one... "If you're playing the alphabet game Q, U, X, Y, Z You're welcome".

We pulled into the park and stopped at one of the first scenic pull offs.  A couple from Arizona, also on their bikes, took our picture for us.

We drove down a little ways and stopped in a pull-off to use the restroom. There was a tour bus full of Japanese that had also stopped and the driver got into a long conversation with us. He was from Salt Lake City. He used to sell real estate and now does these tours for Le Bus (that was the name of the bus). He owned a Goldwing and was really interested in what we were doing. Very nice guy. One of the tourists was so excited to see a Harley and wanted her picture next to it. We told her she could get on, she was so excited.

The scenery was amazing and we just sat back and enjoyed the ride.

We were headed down to Salt Lake City. It kept getting hotter and hotter. We drove through a ton of little towns, including this one, Afton,  WY,  that boasts the largest Elk Horn (Antler) Arch. It weighs 15 tons.

Can you find the Mini-B above?

They are also one of three places in the world to have intermittent springs. This provides their town with its water supply. They offer free spring water on the sidewalk. This was perfect for us, we filled up our water bag and our bellies with fresh spring water.

We kept traveling. We stopped in Montpelier, ID and had a picnic lunch. We crossed by Bear Lake, a beautiful turquoise body of water that is in both Idaho and Utah. After that we went through some beautiful unexpected roads through state parks and national forests on US 89 in Utah. Lots of curves and, again, great scenery for a long portion.

We made it to our KOA in Salt Lake City. They were out of tent sites even though we had made a reservation and gave us an RV site at the tent rate. It was right in front of the bathrooms and had water and electric. We don't really use water and electric but it's nice to use when we need to rinse our hands quickly or charge the computer and phones. While setting up camp I began to feel ill, so once we had everything up I laid down and just zonked out...I fell asleep for two hours while Devin played on the internet. When I finally woke up we just took showers and went back to bed, skipping dinner altogether.

Today we rode 372.8 miles for a total of 3577.7 miles across America.
