While walking back to the tent last night I noticed how incredibly large our tent is. I swear, you could have put all other tents in the campground in ours all the same time (there were about 20 other tents). It towers above the rest like some big tent mecca. Devin says we should call the Taj-matent or Tent mahal.
We actually woke up at a decent hour today. We slept really great last night. We laid in bed for a while playing flick the ants. Ants crawl all over the outside of the tent and you can pop them off from the inside. The koa has free pancake breakfast so we went over there and did that. You pay for other things like coffee and juice. We got ready and hit the road.
We drove north into Montana to come down Beartooth Highway, the 'most scenic highway in America', cutting through mountains. We hit 5 seconds of rain from an invisible cloud before we got into Red Lodge, MT. A beautiful little tourist town. We stopped at their HD store and then headed through town with a plan to get sodas at a gas station. He had seen a taco bus coming in so we instead stopped there...it was sooo good. Best tacos he'd ever had, second best burrito I'd ever had.
The riding was phenomenal. Back and forth through the mountains all the way to the top and back down again. It was cloudy all day making it even better. Along the way some guys flagged us down; one had dropped his bike and needed help picking it back up. Everyone was okay, though part of the guys bike was cosmetically damaged. The top of the mountain is over 10,000 feet; we wanted a picture but there was no sign so we missed it. It was cold up there....lots of ice still remaining.
After Beartooth Hwy we cut across Chief Joseph Hwy, another scenic route. Again lot of cutbacks. In the picture above it shows the road...when we finally made it up to this point there were several dozen chipmunks (of all varieties) that were running around begging the visitors for food. It was hilarious. They weren't very shy at all.
We finally made it back to Cody for a quick rest. It was raining so we went into town and got some Chinese food. Then we stopped at the WYOgurt place again (mmm). When we made it back to the campground we saw they were having an ice cream social, so we had a second helping of an icy treat. After calling our moms we went and sat in the hot tub for a few minutes before laying down to bed. It was an excellent day of riding and really relaxing overall.
Today we traveled 197.7 miles for a total of 2932.3 miles across America.
