Day 6, Hill City, SD

The absolute best way to determine if your air mattress has a hole is to sleep on it full and wake up when it's on the ground:
We slept for another 3 hours anyway.

Once we finally did get moving we packed everything up. It took extra to get the trailer closed and we finally decided to put a camp chair on the front. It was only after we finally had it all sealed that Devin realized he left his sunglasses inside the tent....whoops. So we drove to good ole DG and got him a new pair. Then we grabbed a late breakfast at a local diner. When filling up with gas before we left Chadron there was a small farmer's stand set up so we bought cherries, tomatoes, potatoes, and corn to cook for dinner.

The ride up was windy for the first part but once we got into the hills it was pretty nice. It was cool  but perfect. The roads were amazing...all kinds of twists and turns. We went through Wind Cave State Park in SD where they have buffalo grates on the entrance and exits. See that little brown speck below? That's a buffalo. We also saw lots of Prairie Dogs.

We then passed by Crazy Horse Monument. We'll go see it tomorrow.

We made it to our KOA only to find they gave us the only campsite in full sun day-long (which we asked for shaded) in the entire tent area. Plus it was on a hill...not gonna work with a 900 lb bike and a trailer. They graciously moved us.  Oh yeah, and there's a fire ban, so we couldn't cook just yet. Although they have a "Kamper's Kitchen" on the campgrounds that we may try to use later. We set up tent, repaired the bed and headed into town, Hill City. There are no less than 85 gazillion bikes here. Downtown was blocked off just for bikes. And we are a full hour from Sturgis. Craziness. We had a great dinner at another local diner, I had steak and shrimp, he had chicken fried steak that made his eyes roll back in delight. We walked up and down the streets shopping.

The campers next to us are from near St. Louis. Small world it is. We're meeting up with some buddies of ours in the club tomorrow; they are here for Sturgis. It is a very cold 55 degrees right now...though I'm not complaining just yet! It's nice to be somewhere for a few days. I'm able to get some work done and we are able to really enjoy the area. Physically we're doing pretty good. A little stiff today but that may be from the bed issue or the wind yesterday. Nothing an Aleve won't fix! Tomorrow looks to be awesome.

Today we rode exactly 120 miles for a total of 1794.8 miles across America.
